JOB SUMMARY: 

The Senior Director, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) will lead, mentor and develop the Company’s high performance national field-based medical team. This leader will establish annual strategic plans around marketed products, disease state education, and clinical development programs (as requested) to ensure operational and tactical alignment with corporate and departmental goals. This role will establish key quantitative and qualitative indicators and track MSL performance regularly to ensure effective and compliant engagement with external healthcare professionals. The Senior Director will also facilitate and bolster the team’s interactions with internal stakeholders and support cross-functional integrated field activities to ensure these are conducted within internal policies and external regulations. Furthermore, this person will function as a key contributor within a small, private and rapidly growing pharmaceutical company while actively contributing to the strategic and operational development of Clinical Development and Medical Affairs (CDMA). This remote position will report into the Vice President, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Pharmacovigilance.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide effective leadership, oversight and development of the MSL team including KOL mapping, objectives and tactical strategies within a highly effective and collaborative team to ensure implementation of medical strategies and attainment of corporate and departmental goals.
  • Develop and clearly communicate the MSL team’s overall strategic vision along with objectives and tactical execution plans related to our marketed product and future pipeline development (as requested).
  • Work closely with Company leadership to ensure alignment of corporate goals and objectives as well as adherence to all applicable policies.
  • Oversee the collection and analyzation of healthcare provider insights and provide periodic reports to internal colleagues alongside appropriate plans of action.
  • Manage the overall MSL budget and related resource allocation to remain within an established target range.
  • Provide MSLs with proper opportunities for professional growth based on needs, current skillsets and interests.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  

  • Advanced degree required (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD).
  • Minimum of 12+ years in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with demonstration of effective supervisory ability.
  • Functional understanding of the MSL role and responsibilities along with the rules, regulations and procedures that moderate Clinical Development and Medical Affairs.
  • Strong strategic planning and tactical execution skills which include ensuring adherence to key performance metrics along with developing and overseeing the team’s budget.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively and cross-functionally, within a rapidly developing and team-oriented environment.
  • Effective analytical, communication and presentation skills.

 

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE: 

  • Proven leadership of a successful MSL team is strongly preferred.
  • Corporate experience in the Neuroscience therapeutic area, particularly within epilepsy.
